Container Gardening for Minnesota Apartments and Small Yards

Container gardening

Limited space doesn’t mean limited gardening. Containers allow flexibility and mobility:

  • Best Crops: Grow herbs (basil, thyme, parsley), leafy greens, cherry tomatoes, and peppers in pots.
  • Container Choices: Use frost-resistant ceramic, resin, or plastic containers. Ensure they have drainage holes.
  • Mobility: Place containers on dollies to move them indoors during cold snaps or storms.

Water containers more frequently, as they dry out faster than in-ground gardens. Use high-quality potting mix and fertilize every 2-3 weeks for optimal growth.
